Israeli forces have carried out a major operation in the West Bank, resulting in the deaths of six Palestinian militants in Tubas and a nearby refugee camp. The military described the operation as the biggest in the territory in months, involving hundreds of soldiers, police, and intelligence officers.
The incidents took place during raids in different areas of the West Bank, with drones and helicopters being used for surveillance and airstrikes. In Tubas, a city in the north of the Jordan Valley, mourners gathered for the funeral procession of those killed, including armed men firing into the air.
The Israeli military stated that three drone strikes targeted a militant cell in Tubas, killing several individuals, including Mohammad Zakaria Zubeidi, described as a "significant terrorist" in the Jenin area. Palestinian health officials reported five deaths and three injuries, with the victims claimed by the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad.
Additionally, a 16-year-old Palestinian was killed in an exchange of fire in the area of Far'a, near Tubas. The military stated that he was armed with an explosive device, but there was no confirmation of his affiliation with any militant groups.
The operation has caused widespread damage, with burned and damaged houses in Jenin, disrupted water and electricity services, and displacement of thousands of people from their homes. Health authorities have also faced challenges in providing medical assistance due to Israeli cordons around the main hospital.
Since the outbreak of the war between Israeli forces and Hamas in Gaza last October, the West Bank has experienced increased unrest, with clashes between Israeli military and Palestinian militants, as well as violence by Jewish settlers against Palestinian communities.
Analysis:
The recent Israeli military operation in the West Bank has resulted in the deaths of six Palestinian militants and has caused significant damage and displacement in the region. The ongoing conflict between Israeli forces and Palestinian groups has escalated tensions and led to increased unrest in the area. This situation highlights the complex and volatile nature of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and underscores the need for a peaceful resolution to prevent further loss of life and destruction.
